Ian Hanton

Ian has 20 years experience equally divided across the public and voluntary sector with ten years working as a commissioner of supported housing services for vulnerable people. Ian managed the Northamptonshire Supporting People programme on behalf of local authorities, Probation and Health in the county, developing and implementing commissioning strategies to support and promote independence.

Ian’s voluntary sector experience spans local and national organisations focused on housing, homelessness, substance misuse and mental health with roles in street outreach, residential care, supported housing and policy analysis/ development.

achievements

As Lead Officer for the SP programme Ian was able to double the capacity of the programme, commissioning a diverse range of services available to 17,000 vulnerable people across Northamptonshire whilst managing a real terms cut in funding of in excess of 30%.

Ian was instrumental in simultaneously raising the bar on service quality working collaboratively with service providers to improve policy and practice with a focus on improving outcomes for vulnerable people.

Amongst other innovations Ian led on establishing the first UK based domestic abuse refuge for women with problematic substance misuse, engaging multiple partners to create a service of national significance that many considered impractical.

Ian is a social sciences graduate building on this academic pedigree with qualifications in project management, leadership & management, safeguarding adults & a postgraduate procurement qualification. Ian has continued his professional development adding qualifications in quality assurance as an accredited PQASSO Mentor and is also accredited by SFEDI to provide business support to small organisations.
